Your host, guide and outfitter
Owner-operator Joe Sheridan has invested the last 26 years hunting big game and birds here in New Zealand and around the world.
Your hosts are Joe and his wife Lisa. Between them they run the guiding, the lodge and the hospitality that keeps hunters coming back.
Joe is renowned for providing his clients a world-class environment: the lodging, the guides, the hunting and the fishing. When you hunt with JS Hunting, you’re not handed off to a booking desk: the man who answers your first email is the man who meets you at the lodge and glasses the hill beside you.
Hunters come to Joe from all over the world, and no two arrive the same. That’s why every hunt is tailor-made, built around each hunter’s budget, time and fitness, from the first stalk to the last cast.
What 26 years buys you
Knowledge of the ground
Two decades and more of learning where the game moves, feeds and hides, on our own 20,000 private acres.
A worldwide perspective
Joe has hunted around the world, and he builds hunts for international clients the way he’d want them built for himself.
Host and guide in one
From airport to trophy photos, one person carries the standard for your whole trip, and puts his name on it.
The hunt should fit the hunter
Budget, time and fitness aren’t constraints to apologise for. They’re the design brief. Joe’s job is to put the right trophy in front of you, at the right pace, in country you’ll never forget.
In their words
Kyle Lock, Colorado, USAIf I could give Joe and his wife Lisa 6 out of 5 stars, I would. What started as a simple Facebook message about a turkey hunt turned into a whole New Zealand experience. From first contact to the drop-off at the airport, Joe communicated everything. He even sent photos and videos from his own hunts before mine, and from scouting my hunt. If you’re coming for turkeys, you’ll be ready: Joe has access to thousands of acres, and we saw 300, 350 or more turkeys on every one of them. It was May, so we hunted them spot-and-stalk as New Zealand headed into winter, still a blast locating them, hearing them gobble, and making a plan to stalk in.
Joe also has great red stag and fallow deer hunting. I asked about a paradise shelduck one day, and the next day he had us permission on a field where we set out decoys and the birds worked in perfectly.
Joe has a great contact in New Zealand to get all of your trophies back to the US, or wherever you’re hunting from. Last but not least is the lodge and the hospitality Joe and Lisa provided: a five-star lodge with five-star views of the ocean, where you go to bed each night to the sound of the water. Lisa made us breakfast every morning and put on a feast every night when we got back, a couple of different New Zealand meats and dinners that were all top notch. If you’re looking to book a turkey hunt, or any big game or bird hunt in NZ, then Joe at Joe Sheridan Hunting New Zealand is your guy!

Jeff KenneyI had the opportunity to hunt turkey with Joe Sheridan recently in New Zealand. Joe was very knowledgeable, had access to many properties with turkey, and had worked hard scouting the birds. The number of birds was amazing, easily seeing around 100 per day. Some valleys we hit had at least 3 or 4 groups of birds. We had plenty of time to glass the groups to figure out which ones we wanted to go after.
The lodge was amazing with a cool view of the ocean. Joe made me feel like family and the food was great! I definitely recommend hunting with Joe, and I look forward to hunting with him again sometime soon.
